
From incident reports at the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office:
July 20: A man from Homestead, Fla., turned in a wallet he found on a construction site in Louisville, Ky. He said he tried to turn it in to authorities in Louisville, but no one responded and it was early in the morning and he couldn’t wait.
July 28: A man said his tractor and shipping container were stolen from the corner of Standard Lane and Church Road in the Springfield area. The container was found and towed from Old Dixie Highway near Turkey Branch Road. Later that day, his wallet was found on Ga. 21 near Pearl Davis Road.
July 29: Someone stole the fan off the air conditioner on a new house on Laurel Lane in the Guyton area.
July 29: A five-gallon water jug containing $1,500 in change was stolen from an unlocked house on Golden Drive in the Rincon area.
July 29: Someone stole about $90 cash and a wallet from a truck that may have been left unlocked, on Plantation Drive in the Rincon area.
July 29: A resident of Hillside Drive in the Rincon area said someone stole several pieces of jewelry from her master bedroom. She suspects her grandson.
July 29: Deputies answered a call about a man head-butting a woman on Seventh Avenue in Guyton. The man was arrested on warrants from Garden City and Chatham County. He did not comply with deputies’ commands and was subdued with a stun gun.
July 30: A county mower threw a rock and broke the rear window of a vehicle on Zettler Loop in the Guyton area.
July 30: Someone cut electrical wires and stole copper tubing from the air conditioner of a house on Blandford Crossing in the Rincon area.
July 30: A couple argued about money. She said he has a drug problem and she’s tired of being abused. She also said she smokes weed and wished that she had some right then.
July 30: A woman said her daughter has been spinning the wheels of her vehicle on the grass, damaging her front yard. She wanted a report made. Interstate Circle in the Bloomingdale area.
July 31: A man said his ex-wife was violating a court order that said he should have visitation with his child.
Rocks thrown
July 31: An 18-year-old Springfield resident who was driving north on Ga. 21, a 9 p.m. on a Friday night, said she heard a loud bang and her sunroof shattered. A deputy found white powder that appeared to be from a rock.
July 31: A 70-year-old Clyo woman said when she was traveling north on Ga. 21 at 10:30 p.m. on a Friday night, someone threw a rock at her vehicle, damaging the passenger door. A deputy found a white powdery substance that appeared to be from a rock.
July 31: A 48-year-old woman from Statesboro said she was driving north on Ga. 21 when someone threw a rock at her vehicle, damaging the passenger side.
July 31: Someone pulled on a screen door to a house on Race Path Road in the Springfield area, setting off the house alarm but not gaining entry.
July 31: A woman said a man has been prowling on her property and was verbally abusive and aggressive. She was told to go to Magistrate Court for warrants for criminal trespass and stalking.
July 31: A landlord called authorities when a tenant was moving out without paying July rent. McCall Road in the Springfield area.
Drunk and mental
July 31: A drunken woman rang the doorbell of a house on Old Augusta Road S. and said she needed a ride to the hospital. When a deputy arrived to check on her, the woman opened the rear door to his patrol vehicle to get in. She said she was “drunk and mental” and wanted to go to the hospital. She was arrested on a warrant for financial credit card fraud from Bulloch County.
July 31: A man said his estranged son-in-law threatened to kill his current girlfriend, her three children and himself. Deputies conducted a welfare check on the family to be sure they were OK. The man was told how to obtain a temporary protective order.
Aug. 1: A resident of Ga. 119 N in Clyo said a small black-and-white dog bit him on the hand. He was able to catch the dog but couldn’t find its owner. He took it to the county animal shelter.
Aug. 1: A couple said they own a mobile home on Quail Run Circle in the Springfield area and rent a room to a man who let another man move in without their permission. They were told it was a civil matter and were directed to the courts.
Aug. 1: Someone strung toilet paper on a tractor-trailer parked in front of the driver’s house Dailey Drive in the Guyton area.
Aug. 1: A woman said she and her estranged husband argued and he threw her cell phone on the roof to keep her from calling for help.
Aug. 1: Deputies secured a door on a house on High Pointe Drive in the Rincon area that may have been opened by the wind.
Aug. 2: A deputy escorted a group of unruly females from the Waffle House on Ga. 21 south of Rincon.
Aug. 2: A woman reported getting harassing phone calls from a man who said she hit his car. She said she thinks it may be a man she’s had problems with before in church.
Aug. 2: A Rincon woman said one of her dogs bit her as she was trying to separate them as they argued over a chew toy.
Aug. 2: A couple argued because she went out with one of her friends that he doesn’t like.
Motorcycle chase
Aug. 2: Deputies stopped a motorcycle for speeding on Old Augusta Road. The driver went 140 mph in a 55 mph zone before eventually stopping. The driver was arrested for fleeing and felony eluding, reckless driving, speeding, passing in a no-passing zone, passing on a hill crest, driving without a motorcycle license and obstruction.
Aug. 2: A couple argued over custody of their son. She wanted the boy to go to school in Bulloch and he wanted him to go to school in Effingham.
