From incident reports at the Rincon Police Department:
May 24: An officer helped an off-duty sheriff’s deputy, who detained a suspected shoplifter at Walmart. A second suspect fled. The one who was caught was issued a criminal trespass notice.
May 26: An officer running radar on Ga. 21 stopped a southbound vehicle doing 61 mph in a 45 mph zone. The driver said he was taking a child, who had a cold, to Urgent Care. He was arrested for speeding and driving with a suspended license.
May 26: An officer stopped a 2013 red Fiat 500 on Ga. 21. A passenger was arrested for outstanding warrants, giving a false identity, no insurance, removing a license plate with intent to conceal, escape and interfering with government property. His mother arrived on scene and asked an officer, “What did dip s--- do this time?”
May 27: A man who was banned from Walmart because of shoplifting was arrested for returning to the store despite a trespass warrant.
May 28: A woman said a man who seemed intoxicated called her and said he was interested in her 2-year-old daughter. She believes it was a man that she and her daughter and some friends went fishing with recently. Pine Manor Apartments.
May 28: A woman was stopped on W. Ninth Street for not wearing a seat belt. She at first lied about her identity, giving information for her younger sister. She was arrested for possession of a drug-related item, obstruction by false information and seat belt violation.
May 28: A resident of Oak Ridge Circle said a vehicle struck a mailbox at about 10 p.m. and drove through a yard, dragging the mailbox. Officers put out a “be-on-the-lookout” notice for the vehicle.
May 29: A woman called police because a dog was left in a car at Walmart, with the driver’s window halfway down. An officer went in the store and had customer service page the owner of the vehicle. The officer told the man the dangers of leaving a dog in a hot car. The man said he didn’t realize it was that big an issue but said he wouldn’t do it again.
May 29: Two men selling magazines door-to-door at Effingham Parc Apartments were given a trespass warning and told not to return. They said they were trying to raise money to start a business and win a trip to Europe. Town Park Drive W.
