A Guyton man has been arrested on arson charges following an early morning house fire.
Effingham County Sheriff’s Office spokesman David Ehsanipoor said the fire in the 100 block of Second Street in Pineora was reported about 4 a.m. Monday.
“Initial reports show that Ronald Heath, 58, of Guyton, was high on methamphetamine when he intentionally started a house fire by lighting a paper towel on fire in the kitchen,” Ehsanipoor said. “The fire spread throughout the residence and caused extensive damage.”
Heath told deputies that he started the fire because he was high on methamphetamine and was upset that his drug dealer would not come back and party with him. Heath lived at the residence but was renting the property.
Heath was arrested and taken to the Effingham County Jail.
