
From incident reports at the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office:
May 7: Deputies were called when a package came to a residence on Springfield-Tusculum Road in the Guyton area. It contained electronic cigarettes and unidentified white pills.
The pills were gathered for testing, along with three unmarked bottles in the residence that also contained pills.
May 10: A woman said she struck a deer on Ga. 119 N., south of Berryville Road, in the Springfield area.
Shacking up
May 11: Three deputies ran off a couple who were staying, without permission, in a hunting shack by the river. They said they were down on their luck. Ramsey Landing in the Springfield area.
May 11: A resident of James Road in the Guyton area said he lost his checkbook but it turned up later in the recycle bin, with some checks missing.
He said the bank wanted $30 per check to stop payment on the missing checks. The bank advised him to make a police report.
May 11: A drunken woman argued with her son and her former boyfriend. She was arrested for disorderly house and criminal trespass. Sixth Street in the Meldrim area.
Abused dog
May 11: Deputies collected a skinny pit bull that was left in an enclosure behind a house. Hunter Street in the Guyton area.
May 12: Someone stole tail lights from a truck sitting in a driveway on Golden Road in the Rincon area.
May 12: A woman said she got a threatening message from her husband’s ex-girlfriend, via Facebook.
May 12: A man got deputies to help him retrieve his car, which his ex-girlfriend had hidden in woods behind her house on McCall Road, in the Rincon area.
May 12: A Guyton man said he bought a trailer for $24,000 but he was having trouble getting the owner to transfer the title into his name. Sandhill Road in the Eden area.
May 12: A resident of Myrtlewood Drive in the Guyton area said a man working on the house next to hers had taken her photo with a cell phone and made inappropriate comments and gestures toward her.
The man admitted taking the picture and flirting. When told by a deputy that the advances were unwelcome, he agreed to stop.
Tough love
May 12: A woman was arrested for financial transaction card fraud for using her mother’s bank card to withdraw $60 from a ATM at the Rincon-area Parker’s.
May 14: A mother said her son grabbed her by the throat, slapped and shoved her. They were arguing over her using his money to gamble. He was arrested for simple battery – family violence.
May 14: A driver who pulled out from the Effingham College and Career Academy, too close in front of a deputy heading southbound, was cited for driving with a suspended license.
May 14: A resident of Ga. 17 S. in the Bloomingdale area said someone stole her car. She said she was late a day on the payment, but she had made arrangements to pay it the next day.
May 15: A resident of Ga. 17 S. in the Guyton area complained that his wife’s boyfriend, who lives next door, came on his property to argue with him. The boyfriend was given a criminal trespass warning.
May 15: An anonymous caller said a particular man had posted threats to sheriff’s deputies on Facebook. The caller said the man lives with his parents in Bevils trailer park and keeps a lot of knives in his bedroom.
May 15: A woman said her daughter’s former boyfriend was staying at the house her daughter rents on White Bluff Drive in the Guyton area, despite being evicted.
May 15: A mother and daughter argued “for no reason,” with the mother threatening to harm the daughter and herself. They were advised to remain separated until they could work out things.
May 15: A couple who moved from Utah to Effingham County said some items that should have been in storage were missing. Royal Oak Drive in the Guyton area.
May 15: A couple argued over possession of a vehicle. They were advised it was a civil matter.
Elder abuse
May 15: A 90-year-old woman who lives in the Rincon area was being taken for treatment by EMS.
She had a bruise on her arm that appeared to be a hand print. The house was “destroyed” but no forced entry was found.
May 15: Someone ran over a fence at Pine Street and Red Bud Circle in the Eden area.
May 15: A deputy stopped a vehicle that was passing another on Ga. 119. He clocked it at 74 mph in a 55 mph zone.
The vehicle drove two miles before stopping on Forest Road. The driver was arrested for speeding and driving with a suspended license.
May 15: A resident of Log Landing Road in the Springfield area said he was changing screws on his metal roof when he noticed a bullet hole in the roof.
It went through the metal and the soffit on the back patio. A deputy couldn’t find the bullet or fragments.
May 16: Two rear tires and a spare tire were stolen from a 1991 Chevy pickup truck. Central Avenue in the Guyton area.
May 16: A Savannah man said he paid $1,400 for a 40-foot storage container at 21 South Ministorage, which he saw advertised on craigslist.
He said he owed some more money for the container but couldn’t get in touch with the seller. Another man said he bought the container and had a bill of sale.
May 16: Deputies helped with a dispute over child custody on Key Road in the Eden area.
May 16: Deputies backed up Springfield Police on a traffic stop in front of the jail, on Ga. 21.
May 16: Deputies oversaw a woman collect her and her son’s clothing and leave her husband.
Dope deal
May 16: An 18-year-old Pooler man said two men beat him up and stole $10 from him. He said he had just showed them where to buy “dope.” Pinto Way in the Bloomingdale area.
May 16: A cigarette lighter exploded, causing a small hole in the windshield of a vehicle on Old Dixie Highway S. in the Bloomingdale area.
May 16: A woman who argued with her mother about her parents paying for college and other items was arrested for simple assault – family violence.
May 16: A resident of Cypress Point Road in the Springfield area said her nephew backed over her brick mailbox post. She gave him a week to fix the damage. She wanted the incident documented.
Bad dog
May 17: A resident of Boaen Road in the Guyton area found a stray dog in his chicken pen that had killed three hens and one rooster. Four hens were missing. Animal control took custody of the dog.
May 17: A man said his wife and her girlfriend stay out late drinking and smoking pot and he’s tired of it. A deputy advised both parties to speak with an attorney.
May 17: A deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle behind the 1780 Country Store in the Bloomingdale area. One of the passengers was arrested on a warrant.
May 17: A stray dog bit a boy on James Court in the Eden area. The boy’s father contained the dog in his garage and it was collected by Animal Control.
May 17: A man pulled a gun on a visitor who attempted to correct his grandchildren and refused to leave. The visitor was given a criminal trespass warning. Springfield-Egypt Road in the Springfield area.
Fast cycle
May 17: A deputy running radar on Old Augusta Highway S. clocked a motorcycle that passed four vehicles going 104 mph. The rider was arrested for speeding and reckless driving.
May 17: A deputy clocked a vehicle going 91 mph as it traveled southbound, in the 65 mph zone on Ga. 21, approaching Old Tusculum Road. The driver was arrested for speeding and driving with a suspended license.
May 17: A deputy stopped a vehicle for weaving on Ga. 21. The driver scored just below the level for drunken driving. He was cited for failure to maintain lane.
