From incident reports at the Springfield Police Department:
May 6: A resident of Ash Street Extension said his life was threatened by his boss’s brother.
May 21: A resident of Ash Street Extension said a neighbor had been away all week but a dog was barking all night from inside his residence. A humane enforcement deputy found an open window and went inside to check on the dog, which was left with food and water.
July 13: An officer answered a call at 10:30 a.m. about a fight at Burger King. An SUV in the drive-through lane backed out of the line and almost hit the vehicle behind it. Women got out of both vehicles and argued. Each blamed the other. An officer told them they could pursue remedy through Magistrate Court.
July 14: An officer stopped a car doing 44 mph in a 25 mph zone on Oakwood Drive near Ash Street Extension. The driver was cited for no insurance and speeding. The car was towed.
July 15: A couple argued on E. Fourth Street. She said he was texting his first baby’s mother and that he was cheating on her. She said he slapped her in the face and dragged her outside. They said they broke each other’s cell phones.
July 16: A resident of Hickory Street said her wallet was stolen from her unlocked vehicle overnight. It contained $50, a Social Security card, driver’s license and debit card.
July 16: A resident of Ash Street Extension said a necklace and pocket watch were stolen from her house while she was in the hospital. She suspects her neighbors, who had a key to her house while she was away.
July 17: An officer checked on the welfare of two twin children because of a query from a detective with the Aurora, Ill., police department. The detective said he’d received information that his children were being abused. An officer went to Ash Street Extension and then Fawn Court to check on the children, who were OK.
July 19: An officer stopped a car doing 82 mph in a 45 mph zone on Ga. 119 near Cedar Drive. The driver was arrested for having an altered tag (concealment); unregistered vehicle; speeding; underage drinking; and hindering a law enforcement officer by lying about consumption of an alcoholic beverage.
July 19: A resident of Second Street called at 3 a.m. and said her son had just chased away three young males who were on her property and acting suspiciously. An officer found two young men walking on Second Street, who went to a house on Third Street. They said they were just walking around.
July 22: A resident of Ash Street Extension said her ex-boyfriend came by her house and was mad because she’d been talking with another man. An officer suggested he leave and return after things had cooled down.
July 22: Two folding lawn chairs, valued at $50, were taken from a residence on Ash Street Extension.
July 23: An officer stopped a pickup truck on N. Ash and Cleveland streets because the driver was not wearing a seat belt. The driver was arrested for having a suspended license, no seat belt and non-working turn signal/brake light.
July 25: A woman said when she took a car seat to Ash Street Extension for her ex, the father of her child, he pulled a gun on her and kept asking what she was doing in his yard.
July 28: A resident of S. Laurel Street called police because she said she was tired of physical and mental abuse from her mother. Both women said they hit each other. The daughter agreed to leave for the night.
July 29: A landlord on N. Ash Street said a drunken renter cursed at her when she brought a worker to trim hedges. She said the renter had a rabbit, in violation of the lease.
July 29: An officer stopped a pickup truck for doing 70 mph in a 45 mph zone on Ga. 21. The truck was towed and the driver was cited for speeding, no insurance and having an unregistered vehicle.
July 29: An officer stopped a car that was doing 60 mph in a 30 mph zone on Early Street near Garden Lane. The driver was cited for driving with a suspended license and speeding. The vehicle was turned over to another driver.
July 30: A woman said a sex offender had just moved into a house across the street on Oakwood Drive. She said the owner of the house had brought her two daughters gifts, despite her husband telling him not to come by anymore. The man agreed to stay away from the family.
