From incident reports at the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office:
April 4: A woman said her brother stole a central heating and air unit from her house on Blair Way in the Guyton area. She was referred to Magistrate Court for a warrant.
April 10: A student at the Ombudsman alternative school in Rincon was found with a green leafy material that he believed to be spice. He said he bought it from another student.
April 10: A Guyton woman paid for prescriptions at Gordon’s Pharmacy in the Bloomingdale area with three $50 bills that turned out to be counterfeit. The owner of the pharmacy said he checked the bills with the “bill pen” and they tested OK. But later he looked at them closely and noticed that two of them had the same serial number. The woman said she got the bills from someone who owed her money. She returned with two $100 bills that were real.
April 13: A resident of Beagle Street in the Guyton area wanted to press charges against her daughter for taking a vehicle without permission. The daughter was arrested for driving with a suspended license, theft by taking and drunken driving.
April 13: A student refused to go through metal detectors when entering the Ombudsman alternative school in Rincon. He ran and had to be captured before being taken to the Youth Detention Center.
April 14: A resident of Silver Hill Church Road in the Springfield area said she has a “peace bond” against a particular woman who isn’t supposed to contact her, but that the woman has her family members contact her and harass her. She was advised how to get relief through the courts.
April 14: Two men said three young men cut a hole in the fence between residences on Oakton Drive and Quail Road Mobile Home Park, in the Springfield area. The young men denied damaging the fence. They were told not to trespass.
April 15: A resident of Springfield-Egypt Road in the Springfield area said someone took his vehicle without permission and hasn’t returned it. He reported it as stolen.
April 15: A resident of Nixon Chapel Road in the Springfield area said her 17-year-old daughter has been refusing to go to school. She said she thinks her daughter is using drugs and “messing” around with an older man. She said the Division of Family and Children Services told her to file a report with the Sheriff’s Office.
April 15: A deputy noticed a gray car on Ga. 21 S. in the Rincon area with no headlights on in the rain. He stopped it and found the car also lacked valid insurance and registration. The car was towed and the driver was cited.
April 16: A deputy pulled over a driver who was going 78 mph on Ga. 119 in the Springfield area. The driver said she was in a hurry because someone in her family had died. She was arrested for speeding, driving with a suspended license and child safety restraint.
April 17: A mother complained that her daughter has been harassed, via text messages and Facebook, by two juvenile girls at her school. She said the stepmother of one of the girls came to her place of employment and made false accusations. She wanted a report made in case the trouble continues.
April 18: A man said his former girlfriend took some items that belonged to him when she moved out. He said she also burned some important papers, including his 2013 W2 forms. She denied taking the items or burning the papers. Old Tusculum Road in the Springfield area.
April 18: A man said his boss failed to pay him enough and the two argued about the money. He said his boss “ran him down,” hit him in the head and bit his finger. The boss denied biting his employee’s finger but did admit to hitting him. Briarwood Road in the Guyton area.
April 19: Cousins argued about one coming home in the middle of the night, drunk. They agreed that one would leave for the evening and would move out soon. Partridge Run in the Rincon area.
April 19: A man from Jacksonville, Fla., jumped in front of a train and then jumped out of the way, causing the train to make an emergency stop. A deputy found the man nearby. He admitted being on the tracks. He was given a trespass warning to stay off CSX property. McCall Road S. at Golden Road, in the Rincon area.
April 19: A resident of Hodgeville Road in the Rincon area said someone stole $60 from the money box she keeps in a dresser in her house. She said the box was pried open. Her son denied taking the money but wouldn’t return to the house. She said she told him to stay away.
April 19: A man whose car was stopped for failing to have its lights on in the rain was arrested on a number of charges: possession of marijuana, heroin, oxycodone and clonazepam with intent to distribute; possession of a drug-related object; driving while license suspended; failure to maintain lane; and headlights required when raining. Ga. 26 west of George Road in the Meldrim area.
April 19: A woman said a pothole on Blue Jay Road east of Greystone Drive caused her tire to blow apart. A deputy remained on scene until state workers filled the pothole.
April 20: After a second visit regarding a drunken man who was threatening to kill other people and burn down their houses, the man was arrested for disorderly conduct. Ga. 21 S. in the Springfield area.
April 20: A woman said when she went to sleep, she had $800 in the pockets of her jeans, which she left beside her bed. The money was gone when she woke up. A woman who was staying with her “became irate and was hollering” when asked about the missing money. Paddock Drive in the Bloomingdale area.
