FOREST PARK 44,

EFFINGHAM CO. 37

SPRINGFIELD — Forest Park yielded just four points to host Effingham County in the fourth quarter — limiting possessions with a patient offense that burned time off the clock — and held on for a victory in the GHSA Class AAAAA quarterfinals.

Tamecia Blue scored 15 ponts and Breasia McElrath 12 for Forest Park, which led 25-20 at halftime and 36-33 after three quarters, and scored eight points in the final period on one basket and 6-of-11 shooting at the foul line.

Forest Park applied full-court pressure the entire game.

Effingham County (29-3), which trailed just 38-37 with about four minutes left, could not get shots to fall in the time remaining. Kyesha Lewis, who scored a game-high 23 points and had a big night rebounding, had one basket in the fourth quarter. MaKayla Robinson scored 12 points, all in the first three quarters, and also had a strong night on the boards.
