Jakeenan Gant of Effingham County suffered a grade 2 ankle sprain when he landed on the basketball after making a dunk against Jenkins on Jan.21.
Rebel coach Donnie Arrington said the injury will keep Gant out of the lineup for at least a week, and up to 10 days. He could be back when the Rebels host Ware County on Jan. 31.
The news about the injury is good, because Arrington feared a more serious sprain could have put the Missouri-signee out for the season.
“We’ll have to do our best without Jakeenan for a few games, and we’ll see how he responds to treatment,” Arrington said. “And when he comes back, he won’t be 100 percent right away. It will take time to get his conditioning back and for the ankle to heal.”
Gant should have a week or so under his belt before the Region 3-AAAAA tournament begins.
Effingham fell to Jenkins on Jan. 21, 77-94 and 49-51 to Glynn Academy on Jan. 24.
