The third annual Our Favorites Concert and silent auction will be presented by the Effingham Community Orchestra on Aug. 25.

The concert and auction will be held at the Effingham County Recreation and Parks Department Gymnasium on Ga. 119 in Springfield.

The silent auction begins at 2:30 p.m. The concert will follow at 3 p.m.

Admission is free.

“The orchestra has been preparing for this concert all year by learning new music and reviewing existing repertoire,” said Orchestra Director Andrea Huff. “Recently, the musicians voted for the pieces they would like to perform at this concert. Attendees will hear movie and Broadway themes, well-loved classical pieces, jazz and a few surprises. There will be something for everyone. I sincerely believe this ‘Our Favorites Concert’ will delight and amaze our audience.”

The auction has a large number of items this year.

“Our professionals and businesses have donated wonderful items and gift certificates for restaurant meals, merchandise and services. Our musicians and volunteers have donated very nice new and quality vintage estate items. There will absolutely be something for everyone. All proceeds from the auction will go directly toward orchestra expenses,” Huff said.

Effingham Community Orchestra is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization, which was founded six years ago. It is comprised of both adult and high school youth musicians. It has grown to 50 musicians who perform free community concerts and at community events throughout the county. The orchestra is funded solely by contributions from the participants and donations from community supporters.

Adult and high school level musicians wishing to participate in the orchestra can obtain additional information by visiting the website at www.effinghamcommunityorchestra.org. They may also contact Huff at effinghamcommunityorchestra@windstream.net or 912-826-5300 ext. 110.
