Effingham Sheriff: Road rage leads to 100 mph drive

From incident reports at the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office:

March 2: A woman went to the hospital for treatment, saying she couldn’t walk because a man threw her across the bed into a dresser, pushed her down and choked her.

Disorderly pedestrian

March 7: Deputies helped Rincon Police with a man who was running through traffic on Ga. 21 S. in Rincon. The man, who reportedly had taken pain medicine for a back problem, was charged with disorderly conduct.

March 7: Deputies stopped a vehicle that had struck another vehicle at the Octane fuel station on U.S. 80 and left the scene. The driver was arrested on a warrant from Henry County. The offending vehicle was stopped on Buckingham Drive in the Guyton area.

Road rage

March 8: Deputies helped with a road rage shooting that occurred in Rincon and led to vehicles driving 100 mph on Ga. 21. The victim said the problem started because the other driver wouldn’t dim his headlights.

March 8: A vehicle that was broken down about a foot out of the roadway and that was obstructing views of other drivers was towed. Old Augusta Road S. at Fort Howard Road.

Impaired drivers

March 10: A man was slumped over the wheel of a pickup truck that was still running and was parked at Bethesda United Methodist Church on Midland Road in the Guyton area. The deputy used his sirens and knocked on the vehicle to get the man’s attention.

The driver said he couldn’t find his wallet, which was in his hand. He kept handing the deputy $20 bills when asked for his driver’s license. The deputy found what he believed to be “spice” in the vehicle. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs.

March 10: A deputy stopped a tractor trailer that was weaving on Ga. 119 N. in the Springfield area. The truck was in the center of the road on a blind curve.

When asked for his driver’s license, the driver handed the deputy a concealed carry permit. He was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and failure to maintain lane.

Brush fire

March 12: A brush fire that got out of control burned a fuel tank on Noel C. Conaway Road in the Guyton area. Deputies had to “secure the roadway to ensure public safety.”
