Tornado warnings were issued for Effingham and surrounding counties. While Effingham dodged the tornado, storms caused problems on some of the county’s dirt roads, leading Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie to issue a warning for motorists to stay off the muddy roadways if possible.
Floyd said Thomas Circle is flooded at least three time a year.
The county brought in dirt and fixed the washed out areas.
“With several branches and canals that run under the roads, the slightest bit of rain causes a backup because the excess has nowhere to flow,” Floyd said.
