
From incident reports at the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office:
Dec. 27: A deputy stopped a vehicle for doing 87 mph in a 70 mph zone on I-95. The driver was arrested for drunken driving, speeding and open container.
Dec. 28: A woman said her ex-husband was harassing her because she filed for child support.
Dec. 29: A man said he let a woman who needed a place to stay spend the night at his house. He says ever since that night, the woman’s husband has been threatening him.
Help needed
Dec. 29: A resident of Ralph Rahn Road in the Rincon area called 911 and said a man with a gun was in her yard and was threatening to burn down her house. Deputies found a neighbor in the yard, who said the woman who called for help takes drugs and had called his wife saying she needed help.
She was arrested for false report of a crime, possession of drug-related objects and possession of a controlled substance.
Dec. 29: Someone knocked over a mailbox on Sage Point Drive in the Guyton area.
Dec. 29: A mailbox was broken off the post on Rahn Station Road in the Rincon area.
Dec. 29: A man who said he was trying to find someone who could jump-start his truck was arrested for loitering or prowling. The vehicle, which had an incorrect tag on it and no insurance, was towed. Fifth Street and Bay Street in the Eden area.
Dec. 29: Deputies doing a probation check arrested a man for drug possession. Ackerman Road in the Rincon area.
Online scam
Dec. 29: A resident of the Bloomingdale area said $4,000 was stolen from her by people listing a tractor and Bobcat loader for sale on craigslist.
Dec. 30: A deputy ran the tags of a vehicle on W. Ninth Street in Rincon. He cited the driver for suspended registration.
Dec. 30: A woman on probation was arrested for marijuana possession. Frontage Road in the Rincon area.
Dec. 30: A woman said her former boyfriend choked and pushed her. He was arrested for aggravated assault, burglary and criminal trespass.
Dec. 30: A man and woman, who both admitted taking meth, argued about how to raise their children.
Dec. 30: A woman said black mold was making her sick at the house she rents on Blue Jay Road in the Guyton area. A deputy told her about civil procedures and housing assistance.
Dec. 30: A Guyton woman said she fears her great niece has been corresponding inappropriately with an older man in Florida. She wanted deputies to try to retrieve erased messages from the girl’s phone.
Dec. 30: A resident of the Springfield area was accused of taking his girlfriend’s phone, pushing her to the ground and having her in a choke hold, in front of her minor son. He was arrested for simple battery and cruelty to children.
Dec. 30: Someone flattened a tire and put white powder on the hood of a vehicle on Goshen Road in the Rincon area.
Dec. 30: A wallet and medication were stolen from an unsecured truck on Clyo Stillwell Road in the Clyo area.
Dec. 30: A deputy stopped an SUV for weaving on Ga. 21 south of Rincon. The driver’s pants were down to his knees. He was arrested for drunken driving-refusal, failure to maintain lane and no insurance.
Dec. 31: People who were behind on their rent damaged a house on Lower Ferry Road in the Clyo area.
Jan. 1: A mother and son in Clyo argued when she refused to drive him to Walmart because her tags were expired. She said he pushed her.
Bright headlights
Jan. 1: A deputy stopped a vehicle that wouldn’t dim its headlights on Little McCall Road in the Springfield area. The driver said the lights only worked on high.
The vehicle was towed for no insurance and the driver was given written warnings for driving without license on person, suspended registration and failure to dim headlights. The deputy gave her a ride home.
Jan. 1: A truck was scratched all over while it was parked on Green Morgan School Road in the Clyo area.
Jan. 1: Deputies found a door open on a residence on Paul Edenfield Drive in the Springfield area. Nothing had been taken.
Jan. 1: A resident of Ga. 21 in the Springfield area said he awoke to find two men had broken into his house were stealing things. They ran when he confronted them.
Jan. 2: A couple who were at a bar to celebrate the woman’s birthday argued about the man speaking with another female. He left in her car and she had to get another ride home.
Jan. 2: A man riding a motorcycle was given criminal trespass warnings for Eden Hardware and a house in the Bloomingdale area. A woman complained the man was harassing her.
Jan. 2: A woman said she locked her estranged husband out of the house because they were arguing and she wanted it to stop. He said she wouldn’t give him money to fix his truck.
Jan. 2: A man said he feared his children were in danger while under the supervision of his ex-wife. A deputy checked and didn’t find the woman or the children.
Take that
Jan. 2: A man wanted a criminal trespass warning served against a woman who threw a plate of noodles at his front door. She apparently was mad that the man was not at home. Cahl Drive in the Eden area.
Jan. 2: A man called 911 from Greenbridge Drive in the Guyton area, saying he had an argument with his father. He had left by the time deputies arrived. His sister said he was mad because he’d been told he would have to be put on a budget.
Jan. 2: An enclosed trailer was stolen from a business on Ga. 21 in the Springfield area.
Jan. 2: A resident of Seines Landing Drive in the Springfield area said someone stole three rings, valued at $10,000, and some Oxycontin from her unlocked house.
Jan. 3: A deputy checked an alarm at Centerpoint Community Church on Ga. 21 in the Rincon area. She found a door unsecured.
Jan. 3: Deputies stood by while a woman gathered her things so she could leave her abusive boyfriend. She said he broke a telephone, kicked a hole in the wall and pushed her.
Jan. 3: A 72-year-old woman said when she refused to give her grandson money, he threatened to burn down her house. He was arrested for making terroristic threats. Noel C. Conaway Road in the Guyton area.
