
From incident reports at the Rincon Police Department:
Dec. 22: A maintenance man from the Georgian Apartments was cited for dumping debris on city property because he removed Walmart buggies from the apartment property and pushed them into a city-owned ditch across the street. He had been warned before.
Dec. 22: A cooler valued at $290 was taken from a pickup truck parked at Walmart.
Dec. 22: A Rincon man was scammed out of $300 cash by two men who promised him they would double his money.
Dec. 22: A woman said her vehicle was keyed and a threatening note was left in her mailbox. She believes it’s related to a custody dispute over her stepdaughter.
Dec. 22: A dog that got loose killed a cat on Lakeside Drive. The owner was cited for dog at large.
Dec. 23: A woman said she left her cell phone in a cart at Walmart and when she returned later, it was gone. Store video shows another woman taking the phone.
Dec. 23: An officer stopped a vehicle for going 48 mph in the 35 mph zone on Ga. 21. The driver was cited for speeding and arrested on a Statesboro warrant.
Free toys
Dec. 23: Two women pushed two buggies full of toys out of the garden center at Walmart without paying for them. When they returned to the store to steal more items, they were arrested. They stole $762.13 worth of toys, which were recovered.
Dec. 24: An officer stopped a vehicle because the tag didn’t have a registration sticker. The driver was arrested for possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages under 21 and no tag.
Dec. 25: Two pit bull dogs were found at large on Hardy Road. Sheriff’s deputies said they would not respond since the dogs were not being aggressive.
Dec. 25: A man who was walking his dog found a shotgun on the railroad tracks under the Fourth Street viaduct. It was in a yellow Producers Pride corn bag.
Dec. 30: A Rincon man said someone applied for a Macy’s credit card using his identity and spent $1,600. He said he also received a Bloomingdale credit card that he didn’t want.
Jan. 3: An officer stopped a vehicle for going 58 mph in the 35 mph zone on Ga. 21. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license and speeding.
Empty car
Jan. 3: Officers had checked a car in the Fort Howard Square parking lot the day before because it was left running for two hours with no one in it. Today, they looked inside the car and saw a handgun.
They couldn’t find the car’s owner, so they unloaded the gun and put it under the car seat and secured the car. They also broke a glass marijuana smoking pipe and left the pieces in the car.
Jan. 4: A tractor trailer delivering goods to Fort Howard Square struck and damaged another tractor trailer and the driver left without reporting the accident. He was caught on store video.
Jan. 4: An officer working an off-duty detail at Fair Oaks Apartments ran a tag because a vehicle had no tag lights. The owner of the vehicle was arrested on a Bulloch shoplifting warrant.
Jan. 4: A pickup truck that did donuts at Tillson’s Mobile Home Park on W. Ninth Street slung gravel that damaged a car. The driver was arrested for criminal trespass. A K-9 indicated there were drugs in the truck but a search turned up nothing.
Animal complaint
Jan. 4: A resident of Fox Trace who raises show dogs was cited for having more than four dogs within 100 feet of another dwelling. She also had a monkey in her house.
Jan. 4: A woman said her granddaughter had her permission to use her debit card to buy groceries, but she also withdrew $4,000 cash in August and September. She said the granddaughter also stole rings valued at $1,200.
Jan. 4: A Walmart employee cashed a check for a customer and mistakenly gave her $1,512.19 instead of $488.67. An officer said Walmart would have to seek the money through Magistrate Court.
Jan. 4: Water was tampered with and was running to an unoccupied house on Fox Trace. Work trucks had been parked at the house.
Jan. 5: A resident of Plantation Court was given a warning for parking a truck and trailer on the sidewalk. The homeowner said the truck was on the sidewalk while a broken water pipe in the garage was being fixed.
Jan. 5: An officer checking tags on Lisa Street stopped a vehicle for no insurance. The vehicle was towed and the driver was cited and given a ride home.
Jan. 5: An officer stopped a vehicle for running a red light to turn into Walmart. The vehicle was towed and the driver was cited for driving with a suspended license, failure to obey a traffic device, no insurance and suspended registration.
Jan. 5: A couple argued on Plantation Way. The man said he wanted his girlfriend to move out. He was given eviction instructions.
Basketball fight
Jan. 6: About 30 men got into a fight over a basketball game at the YMCA. One of the men was bleeding from the face and mouth. They were all gone before officers arrived.
Jan. 8: An officer stopped a driver for not wearing a seat belt on Fort Howard Road. She was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and for the seat belt violation. A K-9 alerted on the car and an officer found marijuana blunt.
Jan. 8: An officer stopped a pickup truck on Fort Howard Road on a traffic stop. The driver was arrested on a Bulloch warrant.
My keys
Jan. 8: A woman said her husband took the keys to their vehicle and wouldn’t let her have them. She said he was mad because he learned she was living with another man.
Officers told her this had happened before and they told her again that they couldn’t force him to give her the keys to shared property. Tyler Street.
Jan. 9: A 22-year-old Springfield man said he wired $228 dollars to get a $4,500 loan from a cash loan company he found on the Internet in Largo, Fla. He sent the money and then the number was disconnected.
