Jimmie Leo Weredyk

Rincon - Jimmie Leo Weredyk was born May 30, 1938, in Lakeland, Ga., and passed away Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, at his residence.

His parents were Charlie and Alberta Jones. He was in the Air Force from April 1955 to 1959. He then joined the Army in 1960 and retired in 1979. He was stationed in the Philippines, Korea and fought in the Vietnam War. He and his family had the opportunity to travel extensively and were stationed in Germany, Colorado, Maryland, Texas, and Georgia. After retiring the family decided to move back to Effingham County because they loved the people and he could spend his free time doing what he liked best, which was fishing and hunting.

After retiring from the military he had several different jobs but in the end he refinished furniture and opened an antique shop in Savannah. In 1998 he closed the antique shop and continued to sell antiques at Scotts Antique Market in Atlanta until last year.

He is survived by his wife Beverly Weredyk, three children Deanne, Tim, Doug, one daughter-in- law Tammy, five grandchildren; and his sister, Betty. He also has two children from previous a marriage, Jimmie and Randy Wirt, one daughter-in-law, Trish; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at Bible Lutheran Church Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, at 11 a.m.

The family would like to suggest memorials to Bible Lutheran Church for an Altar Cross in the Sanctuary as an alternative to flowers.

Alfred Allen Stanley

Guyton- Mr. Alfred Allen Stanley, 60, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015, at his residence.

Mr. Stanley was born in Savannah, he was the owner of A & L Trucking Company, was a mechanic and was a member of Tusculum Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife Linda Stanley; son, Paul Stanley of Brooklet; daughters, Nawanna Gay of Leefield, Denise Copeland of Indiana and Jenifer Stevens of Guyton; brother, Kenneth "Rusty" Stanley Jr. of Savannah; sisters, Alice Ertley of Dacula, Ga. and Ethel Waldron of Ellabell; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services were held at Turkey Branch Baptist Church Cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 19.

Shirley Edwards Patterson

Guyton – Shirley Edwards Patterson, 76, passed away Monday, Sept. 14, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

The Tennessee native was a member of Guyton United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Julia Burns Edwards; son, Charles E. Patterson Jr.; grandson, Christopher Vernon Patterson; son-in-law, Edward L. Armstrong Jr.; siblings, Willie, Mary, Linda, and Johnny.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Charles E. Patterson Sr.; children, Frank (Michele) Patterson and Janice P. Armstrong all of Guyton; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Capri Patterson; siblings, Betty Dennis, Jerry and Joe Edwards; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Sept. 18 at Guyton United Methodist Church.

Interment was in Effingham Memorial Gardens.

Roy Howard

Ellabell- Mr. Roy Howard, 54, passed away Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015.

Roy was a native of Florida, he was a carpenter and member of Central Baptist Church.   

Survivors include his son, Joseph "Joey" Howard of Alabama; brother, Dewayne Howard of Illinois; sister, Patricia Ann Hoover of Ellabell and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Sept. 19 at Central Baptist Church. Interment was held in Westside Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be made at riggsfh.com Riggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
