The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man who shot himself into the Black Creek General Store located on US 280 early Monday in a robbery attempt.

According to a clerk, who was inside the store cleaning up, just before 4 a.m. she heard a couple of loud bangs. Initially she thought it was a drink stand falling over until she heard more bangs. When she heard footsteps in the store the woman squatted down, pressed the panic alarm button and tried to hide.

However the intruder discovered her; put a pistol to her head and yelled “what did you touch, what did you touch.” After she said she had not touched anything the man demanded she open both cash drawers and the safe. When she opened the drawers but told the man she could not open the safe due the lack of a key, he fled through the same door he had shot in.

Surveillance video shows a silver or white hatchback style SUV in the store’s parking lot before the suspect enters. Later it shows the suspect leaving the store in the direction of US 280 and the same vehicle pass by in the direction of Interstate 16. When the vehicle’s brake lights come on it appears that the suspect got into vehicle.

As of late Monday afternoon no arrests had been made in the case according to Bryan County Sheriff Clyde Smith.

“It is still under investigation,” Smith said. “One male is all I know of. Hopefully we’ll get something off the surveillance video but he had his face covered I think.”

The man was described as approximately 6-feet tall and very skinny.

Smith said he believes the suspect did not take anything from the store.
