An old press release led to disappointment for some in Effingham County today.
The release from 2001 announcing an Effingham County Sheriff’s Office sponsored Easter Egg Hunt ,spread online across Facebook pages and other websites.
Sgt. Don White with the Sheriff’s Office said the release was copied and pasted online as being the event for Saturday at the Honey Ridge Ball Park.
People showing up for the hunt weren’t happy, White said.
White said he didn’t think it was a large group.
“The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office is not holding or sponsoring an Easter Egg Hunt at Honey Ridge Ball Park,” White said.
Whether this was a joke of some kind, or just an oversight by someone, isn’t known.
“We would like to apologize for any confusion,” White said.
