
From incident reports at the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office:
March 11: A woman said a tenant stole a refrigerator from a residence on Third Street in the Pineora area.
Call me
March 11: A registered sex offender who lives in the Shadowbrook Subdivision in the Springfield area wanted to file a criminal trespass complaint against a deputy who left a business card at his house saying “call me.”
The deputy was checking to see that the man lived where he said he did. The man refused to let the deputy enter his residence. He was arrested for obstructing a law enforcement officer.
March 13: A resident of Loblolly Court in the Rincon area said she heard banging in her utility shed and saw the silhouette of someone. She couldn’t tell if anything had been taken.
March 13: Remains of crosswalk control devices at U.S. 80 and Ga. 17 were scattered on the road. A deputy found a car nearby that had damage consistent with running over them.
Two women in the car admitted taking Ecstasy. The driver was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of drugs, failure to maintain lane, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report striking fixed object.
March 16: A resident of St. Pauls Road in the Guyton area said he was burning trash in the back yard and the fire got away from him. His shed was burned down and neighbor’s fences were damaged. He was cited for residential burning and not having a permit to burn.
March 16: While using an automatic tag reader on a trial basis, a deputy found a vehicle on Interstate 16 that came back as being uninsured and having suspended registration. While she was waiting on a wrecker to tow the vehicle, the driver purchased insurance. She was released from the stop but cited for no insurance and registration.
March 16: A handgun was stolen from a vehicle on Robin Road in the Guyton area. Deputies had already recovered the gun on another arrest.
March 16: Someone damaged the lock on an SUV on Saratoga Drive in the Rincon area.
Too late
March 16: Someone stole a motorcycle that had been left on Old Augusta Road S. in the Rincon area because it had mechanical problems. When the owner returned to pick up the motorcycle on a trailer, he found the lock on the steering column cut off and discarded in a grassy area. The motorcycle was gone.
March 16: A Springfield man said his former girlfriend has been walking by his house, shouting insults and making obscene hand gestures. He said she also threatened to have friends assault him. He was advised of court procedures.
Slow down
March 17: A resident of Sunny Lane in the Guyton area said he yelled at a man who was speeding down the street. He said the driver got out of his vehicle and confronted him.
He said when the driver refused to leave or get out of his personal space, he punched him in the face. He was told how to obtain warrants through Magistrate Court.
March 17: A Clyo woman said another woman has been threatening her over Facebook. She wanted a report.
March 17: A Pooler woman said a car pulling out of the Enmark at Goshen Road and Ga. 21 struck her car, causing minor damage. She said she was in a hurry to get to work and she and the other driver agreed to exchange information later. She said she hasn’t been able to reach the other driver by phone.
March 17: A Guyton woman said her former boyfriend used her debit card without her permission, for nearly $300 worth of charges. Someone also opened Verizon and Capital One accounts in her name.
March 17: A resident of the Springfield area reported getting a call saying he’d won $60,000 in the Publisher’s Clearing House, but he had to send some cash to claim the prize. He hung up but wanted the call reported.
Busy St. Paddy’s
March 17: An Effingham deputy helping with St. Patrick’s Day helped keep a drunken man who had assaulted a woman from jumping into the river. A Chatham County deputy who also was struggling with the drunken man was knocked unconscious.
March 17: A Guyton woman said she borrowed $10 from another woman a year ago and the other woman is now claiming that she stole $100 from her. The other woman denies having any issues with the Guyton woman.
March 17: A deputy stopped a man who was walking in the road on Ga. 17. He arrested the man on a warrant out of Bloomingdale.
March 17: A deputy found a push mower sitting in the road at Sandhill Road and Ray Fetzer Drive in the Guyton area. Nearby residents didn’t claim it so it was taken to the impound lot.
March 18: A deputy helped when EMS was trying to transport a drunken subject who was disorderly at Parker’s near Springfield.
March 18: A worker at Effingham Animal Hospital was bitten by a pit bull that was waiting to have its nails trimmed. The dog was past due for its rabies shots, so it was taken to the county animal shelter for a 10-day quarantine.
March 19: A deputy checked a residence on Greene Drive in the Rincon area and found a man who was reported missing out of Chatham County.
Love you
March 19: A resident of Melrose Place in the Rincon area said she wanted a criminal trespass warning served on her son for knocking on her door. The son said he just wanted to tell her that he loved her.
March 19: A Guyton man said someone threatened to kill his son for having a person arrested.
March 19: A Springfield man said he struck a pothole on Oliver-Kildare Road in the Springfield area. He said his tire went flat and his wheel was dented.
March 20: A tool bag full of tools was taken from the porch of a house on Fourth Street in the Meldrim area.
March 20: Bryan County deputies stopped a woman who was driving recklessly on Interstate 16 and Old River Road in the Bloomingdale area. She was arrested and charged with drunken driving-less safe, three counts of endangering a child under 14 while driving drunk, reckless driving, driving in violation of a limited drunken driving permit and open container.
March 20: A Guyton woman said she and her husband argued and he held her to the floor and yelled at her. She said she had oral surgery and doesn’t take pain medication so she’s been in a very bad mood and hard to live with.
Vehicle sideswiped
March 20: A man driving eastbound on Mock Road in the Springfield area, near Stillwell Road, said an oncoming pickup truck clipped his driver’s side mirror. He followed the truck to Ga. 119 but didn’t get a license number.
March 21: A deputy stopped a vehicle for weaving on Jabez Jones Road just east of Ga. 17 S. in the Guyton area. The driver was arrested for drunken driving-less safe and failure to maintain lane.
March 21: A resident of Crystal Drive in the Rincon area said she was on her back porch and heard her car door shut. Nothing was missing but she wanted to report the incident. A neighbor also reported her tire being cut with a knife.
March 21: A resident of the Rincon area said her former boyfriend violated the stipulations of his bond by arguing with her over the phone.
March 21: A deputy stopped a vehicle for having a burned-out brake light on Clyo-Kildare Road in the Clyo area. The driver was arrested for drunken driving-less safe, driving with a suspended license and brake light violation. He was given warnings for suspended registration and no insurance.
March 21: A deputy answered a call about a vehicle on its side in a ditch on Old Augusta Road S. in the Rincon area. He found the driver, who had left on foot, and charged him with drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
March 22: A resident of the Guyton area said her brother has been sending her profane, threatening text messages.
Found it
March 22: A resident of Bobwhite Lane in the Springfield area said his female pit-terrier was missing from his yard. Dispatch said a similar dog was taken to the animal shelter.
March 22: A deputy stopped a vehicle for running a stop sign on Westwood Drive in the Rincon area. The driver was arrested on a probation violation warrant. He was cited for driving without his license on person and running a stop sign.
March 22: A vehicle sitting in a driveway in Guyton burned. The Guyton Fire Department extinguished the fire. There were no injuries.
