
From incident reports at the Rincon Police Department:
March 13: A pine straw fire in a burn barrel got out of control and burned some grass and the side of a mobile home before it was extinguished. Red Gate Mobile Home Park on Weisenbaker Road.
March 14: A father and son argued because the son refused to help his father change the brakes on a vehicle.
March 16: A woman said she left her change purse with $232 in it when she paid her bill at Verizon. She believes someone should be on video taking it.
March 16: Someone ran over a mailbox on Weisenbaker Road.
March 16: A resident of E. Sixth Street said two people who were visiting her house fought on her front lawn. The offenders were advised of warrant procedures.
Walmart shoplifter
March 17: A man tried to walk out of Walmart with $255 in unpaid merchandise. He abandoned the merchandise near the front door when confronted. An officer didn’t find the man, who left on foot.
March 17: An officer stopped a car for going 60 mph in a 45 mph zone on Ga. 21. The driver, from Savannah, was arrested for driving with a suspended license and speeding.
March 17: Two residents of Windsong Drive said someone tried to get a credit card in their name but they were able to stop it. They checked and found someone had received another credit card with their information. That card had a $300 balance and someone had made a payment of $234.
March 18: An officer stopped a vehicle for going 54 mph in a 35 mph zone on Ga. 21 at E. 10th Street. The driver had a pill that appeared to be Subutex, which is for the treatment of opiate dependence, and a liquid that may be steroids. He was arrested for possession of a drug-related object and possession and use of a drug-related object.
Hungry boy
March 18: A Rincon boy was arrested for stealing a beverage and beef jerky from Walmart, valued at $6.86. The boy said he didn’t have money to buy lunch in school and was hungry.
March 21: A Rincon man who was found sitting on the railroad tracks on Johnson Street with an open container was arrested for public drunkenness.
March 21: A boy’s bicycle was stolen from behind apartments on Lisa Street.
Back off
March 21: A woman who stopped on Ga. 21 for an ambulance with flashing lights and siren said she was nearly struck by another vehicle.
She said the other driver followed her to Parker’s, where she yelled at her and slapped her car window. The other driver was cited for following too closely and aggressive driving.
