Boston began working in the Effingham DFCS office in 1985. Before that, Boston worked in the Chatham County DFCS office.

The ship was off the shore of Charleston, S.C. Pastors Johann Martin Boltzius and Israel Christian Gronau were allowed to go ashore, while the others remained on the vessel.
