State School Superintendent Richard Woods named 609 Advanced Placement, or AP, Honor Schools Thursday. The schools earned AP honors based on the course and exam results from 2014. AP courses and exams are administered by the College Board. They are designed to provide high school students with college-level learning opportunities. Students earn a 3 or higher on AP exams may receive college credit. Here are the area schools being honored:
AP Access and Support Schools: Schools with at least 30 percent of their AP exams taken by African American or Hispanic students, and 30 percent of all AP exam scores are 3 or higher

AP Merit Schools: Schools with at least 20 percent of the student population taking AP exams and at least 50 percent of all AP exams scores are 3 or higher
• ISLANDS HIGH SCHOOL
• SAVANNAH ARTS ACADEMY
AP STEM Achievement Schools: Schools with students testing in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses, and at least 40 percent of the exam scores are 3 or higher
• RICHMOND HILL HIGH SCHOOL
• SAVANNAH ARTS ACADEMY
• SOUTH EFFINGHAM HIGH SCHOOL
AP Challenge Schools: Schools with enrollments of 900 or fewer students that test students in the four of the core subject areas: English, math, science, and social studies
• Savannah Arts Academy
• Sol C. Johnson High School
AP STEM Schools: Schools that test students in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses
