William R. Wendelken, III “Will”
Springfield – William R. Wendelken, III “Will,” 64, passed away Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, at Memorial Health.
The Effingham County native was a member of Springfield United Methodist Church and attended Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church. He worked for Joiner International for 18 years and retired from Hendrix Machinery. He was preceded in death by his parents, William R. Wendelken Jr. and Lena Exley Wendelken; and his first wife, Angelyn Arnsdorff Wendelken.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen H. Wendelken; daughter, Lauren (Stuart) Boykin; grandchildren, Lila Rose Boykin and Perry William Boykin; step-daughter, Margaret (Westley) Alexander; sister, Dixie (Gary) Weitman; brother, Roy Wendelken; niece, Stephanie Weitman; nephew, Stephen (Amy) Weitman and their children, Kaylee and Trent William; his mother-in-law, Claudine Arnsdorff; sister-in-law, Linda (Gerald) Murray; brothers-in-law, Wendell (Cheryl) Arnsdorff and Ross Arnsdorff.
Funeral services will be held today, Feb. 11 at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Interment will follow in Springfield Cemetery Annex.

Christine M. Thompson
Guyton- Mrs. Christine M. Thompson, 75, passed away Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, at her residence.
Mrs. Thompson was born in Savannah, but lived in Effingham County for a number of years. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of Savannah Holiness Church of God.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Elliott Eugene “Gene” Thompson Sr.
Survivors include her children, Eugene Thompson of Guyton, JoAnn and Joe Allan of Guyton, Jimmy and Cheryl Thompson of Faulkville, Debbie and Pete Lewis of Guyton, Randy and Rhonda Thompson of Tennessee, Glenn and Yvette Thompson, Eric and Lacy Thompson of Guyton and Jason Thompson of Springfield,; brothers, Lou Dean Coleman of Guyton and Lamar Coleman of Marlow; three sisters, Melba Hutchinson, and Carol Burson of Bloomingdale and Marsha Purifoy of Marlow; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Savannah Holiness Church of God, with Bro. Ryan Rollings an Bro. Ray Gillis officiating with interment following at Marlow Cemetery.

Charles David Harris
Rincon - Charles David Harris, 50, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at the Effingham County Hospital.
Mr. Harris was born in Savannah, graduated from Battery Creek High School in South Carolina, and lived in Rincon for a number of years. He was a U.S. Army veteran in the 82nd Airborne, 1st 504th Infantry Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina serving tours in Desert Storm and Honduras. He was a self-employed Heavy Equipment Mechanic and was of the Christian faith.
He was a loving son, awesome brother, a best friend, and the most amazing husband. He was truly a blessing from God. To know him and be a part of his life was an honor. God definitely has another angel.
He is preceded in death by his father, Will Harris Jr. and brother, Wayne Harris.
Survivors include his wife Debbie Harris of Rincon; mother, Carol Harris; brothers, Will Harris III (Heather ) of Rincon, Allen Fain of Atlanta, Norman Sapp of St. Augustine, Fla. and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 9, at Riggs funeral home chapel with Pastor Jackie Gordon officiating.
Interment followed in Effingham Memorial Gardens with military honors.

George A. Jenkins
Springfield – George A. Jenkins, 79, passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2015.
The Effingham County native was a member of Corinth Baptist Church and retired from Georgia-Pacific.
Survivors include his children, Joan Braudy and Robert (Tinker) Jenkins; granddaughter, Dorothy Braudy (Russell McKuhen); step-grandchildren, Jamie Gross, Casey Clifton, and J.C. Clifton; 3 great-grandchildren; and 6 step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 9, at Corinth Baptist Church.
Interment followed in the church cemetery.
