


The Hall of Fame inductees for Effingham County High School were honored on Jan. 30 at the basketball game.
Honorees this year are Chriss Thomas Allen, Paul Douglas Carrington and Trey Mikel Hunter
Allen graduated from ECHS in 1992. He played football all through high school and as a junior, was the punter and starting quarterback, passing for over 1,000 yards and 8 touchdowns, and leading the team to a region championship. He rushed for an additional 6 touchdowns. He was honorable mention on the All-Area Football team. As a senior, he was once again the starting quarterback and punter. He led the team to a 9-2 record and sub-region championship. He passed for more than 600 yards and 9 touchdowns. He rushed for two touchdowns. He was chosen co-captain and was a scholar athlete. Allen again received honorable mention on the All-Area Football team.
Allen also played baseball all four years of high school. He was MVP of the team for his junior year, hitting .404 with 9 home runs and leading the area in RBIs with 36. He was the DH for the All-Area team during his junior season. As a senior, Allen played varsity baseball, hitting more home runs, bringing his career total to 17, once an ECHS record. Allen also played junior varsity basketball.
Carrington graduated ECHS in 2001 and played football from 1997-2000. He was team captain during the 2000 season when he recorded 41 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 10 sacks.
He made first team All-Region for his senior season. For his career at ECHS, he finished with 110 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, and 14 sacks. He also played basketball and wrestled while in high school. He won the Iron Rebel Award as the strongest athlete for 2001. He signed a football scholarship to Central Florida in the winter of his senior year. Carrington began coaching at UCF in 2011 and is still on staff to date.
Hunter graduated ECHS in 2000. He played football in high school for four years and was the starting quarterback and defensive back during his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. He led the Rebels to a 5-5 record as a sophomore, a 6-4 record as a junior, and a 6-5 record with a first- round playoff game during his senior year. As a senior, Hunter rushed for 339 yards on 93 carries for a 3.6 yard average. He scored 6 touchdowns and completed 74 passes for 909 yards with a 12.2 yard completion average. As a defensive back, he recorded 16 tackles, 1 interception, and 3 fumble recoveries. He was also the punter, averaging 34.3 yards per punt. Hunter won the Golden Helmet MVP Award as a junior and senior. He won honors for Player of the Week for WTOC, All Region Football, and All Area Football for the Savannah Morning News. He signed a football scholarship to Georgia Southern University. Hunter also played baseball for four years. He was the starting shortstop all four years and pitched 19.1 innings during his senior season. As a junior, Hunter hit 1 HR, had 11 stolen bases, and hit .511 with a .622 on-base percentage. As a senior, Hunter hit 2 home runs, had 9 stolen bases, and hit .357. As a pitcher, he was 2-2 with 27 K’s and a 3.98 ERA. He won numerous baseball awards including the Savannah Morning News All-Area team, Player of the Week, and was nominated to the Georgia Dug Out Club All-State Baseball team.
