
From incident reports at the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office:
Dec. 21: A resident of Sandhill Road in the Guyton area said he believes an overnight guest stole his credit card information.
Dec. 24: A deputy stopped a vehicle for weaving on Hodgeville Road at Scuffletown Road in the Rincon area. A passenger was arrested for possession of marijuana and for crossing a guard line with drugs.
Dec. 25: Fire destroyed a house on Ralph Rahn Road in the Rincon area.
Dec. 25: A deputy intervened in an argument between two families on Ackerman Road over use of four wheelers on an easement. They agreed to be nice until they could reach an agreement or take the issue to court.
Dec. 25: A deputy stopped a vehicle on Ga. 21 N. in the Springfield area at 7:15 a.m. for having no headlights. The driver ran because he didn’t have a license. He got away. Warrants were issued for him for obstruction.
Welcome to Melrose
Dec. 26: A 69-year-old man said he just moved into a house on Melrose Place in the Rincon area and someone has been beating on his doors and windows.
He also said the unknown offender has been sending sound waves through the electronic devices in his home, setting off stink bombs in and outside his residence and following him and spraying toxic fumes into his vehicle.
Dec. 26: A deputy stopped an F-150 on Ga. 21 S. at Beebe Road in the Springfield area and gave the driver a citation for littering.
Dec. 26: A deputy ran the tag of a vehicle that had improperly working brake lights and discovered the vehicle had no insurance. He cited the driver for no insurance and gave her a warning for the brake lights. The vehicle was towed. Blue Jay Road at Midland Road in the Guyton area.
Dec. 26: Deputies answered a call about a domestic dispute in the Bevills Trailer Park on Godley Road in the Bloomingdale area. The offender ran out the back door but was caught by deputies.
He was charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer, simple assault, simple battery and cruelty to children. He also was wanted on a warrant for credit card fraud in Alabama.
Dec. 27: Three people who were taking metal from a residence on Harvey Road in the Bloomingdale area had permission from the owner.
Dec. 27: A man deputies were trying to arrest on a warrant ran out the back door of a house and got away. Obstruction of law enforcement officers was added to his charges. Standard Lane in the Springfield area.
Get out
Dec. 27: A woman said she went to a house on Fox Street to pick up the father of her child. He had called her because he was intoxicated and had gotten into an argument with his father.
While they were in the car, she said he punched the dome light and struck her in the mouth. She made him get out of the vehicle and left him beside the road, on Courthouse Road at McCall Road in the Springfield area.
Dec. 27: A deputy stopped a vehicle for weaving on Ga. 30 at Nease Road in the Guyton area. The driver was arrested for drunken driving and failure to maintain lane.
Dec. 27: A man complained about deputies driving on Ray Fetzer Drive in the Guyton area day and night. He said he felt they were singling him out and he was tired of being bothered. He was arrested on warrants from Chatham County.
Dec. 27: A 74-year-old man said a renter owes him rent and for a refrigerator. The renter said the house is full of black mold and that it made her sick and ruined her possessions. She said she paid for the refrigerator. They were advised of civil procedures. Ga. 21 Spur in the Springfield area.
Liar, liar
Dec. 28: A man said he left his residence on Jabez Jones Road in the Guyton area when his wife started throwing things. She said they argued because he told her he was at home but she tracked his phone and it showed he was at a restaurant in Pooler.
Dec. 29: A resident of Stillwell Road in the Springfield area said his back door was open and a fan that he never uses was running. He said nothing was missing.
Dec. 29: A resident of Cloverdale Road in the Bloomingdale area said his neighbor and children in the neighborhood have been harassing him. He said he thinks it’s because he’s a Jehovah’s Witness.
Dec. 29: A 22-year-old man said his girlfriend has been sending him harassing text messages. Oak Drive in the Bloomingdale area.
Dec. 30: A 28-year-old resident of Withlacoochee Avenue in the Bloomingdale area said his ex-girlfriend keeps coming to his house, trying to “get him back,” even though he’s told her repeatedly to leave him alone. A deputy explained how he could take out a peace bond.
Dec. 30: Deputies checked a report of suspicious people at a trailer on Ray Fetzer Drive in the Guyton area.
Dec. 30: A resident of Pecan Lane in the Springfield area said she was being harassed on Facebook because she criticized a woman for selling broken items.
Off my lawn
Dec. 30: An 85-year-old resident of Old Dixie Highway S. in the Springfield area said trash trucks are destroying his grass and yard when they should be able to pick up his garbage from the street. A deputy observed tire tracks three to four feet from the road.
Dec. 30: A deputy stopped a vehicle that was traveling north on Ga. 21 S. in the Springfield area, above the speed limit, with its four-way flashers lit. The driver said he was running late for work and his tail lights weren’t working, so he turned on the flashers. He was warned about the violations and released.
Dec. 30: A resident of Morgan Cemetery Road in the Clyo area said a man tried to break down her door as she and her son were upstairs watching a movie. When she confronted the man with a BB gun, he fled.
Dec. 30: A resident of Chourre Lane in the Guyton area said she got a phone call from a man who said she hit his vehicle and left her cell phone number. He demanded her insurance information and said, “I’m going to get you.”
She said she didn’t hit anyone or leave her phone number. A deputy confirmed that her vehicle was not damaged. The deputy told her to refer the man to the Sheriff’s Office if he calls again.
Dec. 30: Someone stole items from a house that is for sale on Goshen Road in the Rincon area.
Dog attack
Dec. 30: A pit bull attacked a small dog that was tethered in the Bevills Mobile Home Park on Godley Road in the Bloomingdale area. The owner of the pit bull was cited for dog at large and no proof of rabies vaccination. The owner of the small dog was instructed to take the dog to a veterinarian.
Dec. 30: Radio equipment and a firearm were stolen from a vehicle on Oliver-Kildare Road in the Springfield area. A window on the vehicle was broken.
Jan. 1: A deputy checked a suspicious vehicle parked at Grace Community Church on Goshen Road in the Rincon area. He found several doors to the church were unsecured.
Jan. 1: A man rear-ended a vehicle that pulled over to allow emergency vehicles to pass on Ga. 17 S., north of Old Marlow Road in the Guyton area. He was charged with drunken driving-less safe and following too closely. He said he had been drinking alcohol and had taken Xanax and Ambien.
Jan. 2: Two pistols were stolen from two vehicles parked on Knotty Pine Circle in the Springfield area.
Jan. 2: A resident of Nixon Chapel Road in the Newington area said his cousin hit and kicked his new vehicle, damaging the door and hood.
Stop means stop
Jan. 2: Fire trucks blocked one lane of Old River Road at Interstate 16 in the Bloomingdale area while a vehicle fire was extinguished. A vehicle drove around a deputy who was directing traffic, ignoring instructions to stop. The driver was arrested for failing to obey a police officer and for possession of marijuana.
Jan. 2: A woman who had been arguing with her husband wanted him removed from the home because she didn’t want their children to hear them arguing. She seemed disappointed when told that neither party could be removed from the home without due cause. Noel C. Conaway Road in the Guyton area.
Jan. 2: Drunken neighbors argued on Paddock Way in the Bloomingdale area.
Jan. 2: A resident of Hummingbird Lane in the Guyton area said her ex-boyfriend has been harassing her by social media and by phone. She wanted a report done because she fears for her and her children’s safety.
Jan. 2: A couple living on Reed Street in the Eden area called because their adult daughter was being disorderly. She said she was upset because her purse, containing her phone, wallet and medication, was missing.
Because of previous complaints against her, she was advised that if she became disorderly toward her parents or child again, she would be arrested.
Jan. 2: A man said a neighbor saw the man’s daughter enter his home on Woodpecker Trail in the Rincon area. The man had the daughter evicted before Thanksgiving because of her drug use. Nothing was missing from the home.
The daughter was found a few minutes later, on Cardinal Drive. She was arrested for loitering and prowling and possession of drug-related objects.
Man cave violated
Jan. 2: A BB gun and some liqueur were stolen from a “man cave,” a storage building attached to a carport, on Watkins Glen in the Bloomingdale area. Entry apparently was through an unlocked window.
Jan. 3: A neighbor called because a 10-year-old child was walking around the edge of a property line on Rosebud Place in the Guyton area. The child said she was being punished for eating too slowly. Her mother confirmed that she was being punished.
Jan. 3: A resident of Stagecoach Drive in the Guyton area said someone dumped a large quantity of Styrofoam packing peanuts by his vehicles. He figured it was in retaliation for him calling 911 and asking some males to quit doing doughnuts and speeding by Sandhill Elementary School.
Jan. 3: A resident of Tara Street in the Rincon area said a man dating his stepdaughter threatened to burglarize his house, steal his guns and dogs and do other damage to his property. He said a work vehicle had a cut tire.
Jan. 3: A 25-year-old woman said she left her two children with their father when she went out with friends. She said she was unable to find her children when she returned.
The father said the children were at his cousin’s house next door. He said he was tired of her going out and coming home at all hours. Oakton Drive in the Springfield area.
Jan. 3: A woman said her daughter’s ex-boyfriend beat her at the Dollar General store on Noel C. Conaway Road in the Guyton area. Deputies found the ex-boyfriend, who had an alibi.
Wife caught
Jan. 4: A man said he caught his wife committing adultery. He admitted breaking the windows of the vehicle belonging to the man he caught with his wife.
The man said he and his wife have been separated, living at different residences, for seven years, but they are not divorced. She said he refuses to divorce her. He was told she can have guests in her home. High Bluff Road in the Rincon area.
Jan. 4: A resident of Kildee Lane in the Springfield area said he got two phone calls from a restricted number. He said the caller said he was going to “shoot his house tonight.”
Jan. 4: A man drove from Jacksonville, Fla., to Walker Drive in the Guyton area to challenge the boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend to a fight. He was arrested for stalking and disorderly conduct.
Dangerous couple
Jan. 5: A Bloomingdale man said a couple walking along Zeigler Road in the Bloomingdale area threw a beer can at his truck, damaging it. When he stopped and asked them why, the woman asked him to run her over. She also threatened bodily harm and damages to another vehicle that stopped.
Jan. 6: A resident of Ga. 21 S. in the Rincon area said her boyfriend pointed a gun at her and punched her in the face at least twice, knocking her to the floor. Warrants were issued for his arrest for aggravated assault and battery.
Jan. 6: A resident of Southern Charm Way in the Guyton area said her former girlfriend was trying to contact her when she told her to leave her alone.
Jan. 6: Someone entered a residence on Quail Run Circle in the Springfield area through an unsecured window and stole a 32-inch TV.
Ignore it
Jan. 8: A resident of White Bluff Drive in the Guyton area said although no names are being used, she fears threats that are being made on Facebook are against her son. A deputy told her to ignore the posts and un-friend the author.
Jan. 9: A woman said her former girlfriend is refusing to allow her to take her vehicle and other possessions from Southern Charm Way in the Guyton area.
Jan. 9: A golf cart was stolen from beneath a carport on Ogeechee Avenue in the Meldrim area.
Jan. 9: Two trucks stolen from Savannah were left at a residence on Clyo-Kildare Road in the Clyo area.
Jan. 9: Someone entered a residence on Lakeshore Road in the Guyton area through a garage door and took some taxidermy items.
Jan. 9: A woman from Newington struck a deer on Oliver-Kildare Road in the Springfield area.
Jan. 9: A Statesboro man said he was supposed to gain custody of his daughter but the child’s mother didn’t show up and wouldn’t answer queries.
Jan. 9: A 17-year-old Guyton man said his tire and wheel were damaged when he struck a pothole on Lexington Avenue Extension in the Rincon area.
Jan. 10: An officer stopped a vehicle for not having a tag light on U.S. 80 at Old River Road in the Bloomingdale area. The driver was arrested for driving without a license and no tag lights.
Hunter nabbed
Jan. 10: Officers with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources stopped a man they thought was hunting at Race Path Road at Rahn Station Road in the Springfield area. He was arrested for possession of marijuana and possession of a drug-related object.
Jan. 10: A resident of Kingsley Drive S. in the Guyton area said a contractor working in the subdivision damaged his portable basketball net.
Jan. 11: A pistol was stolen from a vehicle on Plantation Drive in the Rincon area. The vehicle may have been unlocked.
