
From incident reports at the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office:
Dec. 18: A deputy stopped a van that was weaving on Ga. 17 S. in the Guyton area. The driver said the front end of his vehicle was messed up and it was hard for him to steer. He was arrested for drunken driving, failure to maintain lane, open container and unsafe vehicle.
Dec. 21: A van was stolen from Old River Road in the Bloomingdale area.
Drunken pedestrian
Dec. 21: Deputies answered a call from a taxi driver who said his fare refused to pay and was very drunk. They found someone so intoxicated that he couldn’t find his house. He was arrested for being a pedestrian under the influence. Zeigler Road in the Bloomingdale area.
Dec. 23: A resident of Saddlehorn Lane in the Guyton area said he was tired of being awakened by the neighbor’s dog barking. The dog was barking when the deputy arrived. He went next door to check and the dog was in a clean pen with water. The dog stopped barking after it was fed.
Dec. 23: A resident of Jerrell Woods Road in the Guyton area said she returned home to find two people in a pickup truck parked on her driveway. She told them to leave and then followed them. She said they pulled over, cursed at her and the woman mooned her.
Deputies found the couple, who said they were trying to find their way to the Ogeechee River. The property owner returned home and found a door open to a van and a gun lying on the ground along with some coins.
Resisting arrest
Dec. 23: A man called and said his sister was being beaten by her husband on Ga. 119 N. in the Guyton area. Deputies investigated and found the woman was very drunken and disorderly. She came out of the house wearing only a towel.
They had to drive-stun her to take her into custody, and she fought the whole way. She was charged with obstructing/hindering a law enforcement officer and two counts of simple battery on a law enforcement officer.
Dec. 23: A 70-year-old resident of Lewis Drive in the Rincon area said she let a younger man, who she met through a church friend, live with her for six weeks because he had nowhere else to go.
She said she told the man to move out. She said she fears the man and his friends may try to burglarize her home when she’s gone.
Dec. 24: A drunken couple argued on Harvey Road in the Bloomingdale area. They were advised to separate until they were sober and were given disorderly house warnings.
Dec. 24: A deputy stopped a vehicle for having no tail lights in the dark and rain on Ga. 21 in Rincon. The driver was cited for taillight requirements and driving under the influence of drugs-less safe.
Dec. 24: Some items were stolen from an unlocked vehicle on High Pointe Drive in the Rincon area.
Dec. 25: Deputies found five juveniles on the porch of an abandoned house on Lowground Road in the Guyton area. They were returned to their parents.
Dec. 25: A man said he and his 11-year-old son were hit by a vehicle while they were riding a go-cart on Fourth Street in the Clyo area. The driver of the car stopped briefly but then left the scene.
Pay up
Dec. 25: A 17-year-old who was being treated at Effingham Hospital said he was attacked when he went to visit a friend on Long Bridge Road in the Springfield area.
He said a man he knew beat him up and said he was going to kill him and his whole family if he didn’t make good on a debt within an hour. He said the man took $25 from him, as well as a pocket knife and cigarettes.
