Mr. Theodore DeVoe
Clyo - Mr. Theodore DeVoe Jr., 71, passed away Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, at Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Theodore was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army in Vietnam; he worked at Plant Vogtle for many years and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn DeVoe; sons, William DeVoe and Michael DeVoe both of Clyo; daughter, Glenda DeVoe of Rincon; one brother, three sisters, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Dec. 30 at Elam Egpyt Baptist Church. Burial was held in the Ryal Cemetery.

Thomas “Tommy” Joseph Hernandez Jr.
Thomas “Tommy” Joseph Hernandez Jr, 71, passed away Friday, Jan. 2,2015, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Tommy was born in Savannah on Jan. 6, 1943, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hernandez Sr. and was raised in the Catholic faith. He graduated from Benedictine Military School before joining the U.S. Marine Corps. Tommy was employed by Norfolk Southern, where he worked as an inspector and retired after 29 years.
Tommy was proceeded in death by his son, Tony Hernandez. He is survived by his beloved wife, friend and care taker, Dianne Wilson Hernandez; children Thomas“Tom”Joseph Hernandez III (Maureen) of Everett, Wash. and Teresa Hernandez of Destin, Fla. Also, survived and loved by his step children Jody and Marc Patrick (Mary Ann) and seven grandchildren, all of Effingham County.
A Memorial service was held in his honor on Jan, 5 at Pineora Baptist Church.

Alonza Lee Burns
Kildare – Alonza Lee Burns, 88, passed peacefully into eternal rest surrounded by his family on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, at Effingham Care Center.
He was a lifelong resident Effingham County, a retired farmer, Army veteran of World War II, and an avid outdoorsman with a passion for his family and Black and Tan coonhounds. He was the founder of Busy B Hunting Club and was recently inducted into the GA Coon Hunter’s Association Hall of Fame. He was a member of North Newington Baptist Church, former Deacon at Newington Baptist Church, and had served on the Effingham County Department of Family and Children’s Services Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonza Brantley Burns and Annie Jane Daley Burns; brothers, L. E. Burns and Willie Lloyd Burns; sister, Rhena Wright.
He is survived by his former wife of 53 years, Maude W. Burns; children, Andy A. and Patty Burns, Rhonda B. and Timmy Rodewolt, and Sheryl B. and Bill Smith; six grandchildren, Christopher and Dena Rodewolt, Daniel and Nicole Rodewolt, Ryan and Kelly Burns, Stacey and Kip Spence, Brantley Burns, and Heather Smith; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, W.E. Burns; sister, Miriam Price; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Dec. 31 at North Newington Baptist Church. Interment was in the church cemetery.
