Let no pet – bird, cat, dog, hamster, horse or pig – go without food or face being left at a shelter because its owners can’t afford to feed it.

Tracy Wilson of Guyton estimates she and her husband J.C. have helped 100 families since starting a pet food pantry in April 2012.

Full Bowls Inc. is a not-for-profit organization that helps people who are struggling to keep their pets.

Wilson said she tries to help anyone who asks, in Southeast Georgia and in the Lowcountry of South Carolina.

“If you feel that you need this help, that’s what we’re here for,” she said. “We try to keep it real hometown and real small.”

The Wilsons have set aside a room in their house – a big, 140-year-old red house in Guyton’s historic district – to store donated pet food.

They and other volunteers solicit donations of food and money from individuals and businesses and take pet food to needy families.

Wilson, a network relations consultant at Amerigroup, got the idea for the food pantry when she read about a similar group in California.

She said the group is helping six families now.

Wilson has published a book – “A Full Life” – a collection of recipes and writings, with part of the proceeds going to help Full Bowls.
