Matthew 5:13 asks the question, “What good is salt that has lost its flavor?” Christians are called to season lives of people around us. The scripture begins with the statement that “You are the salt of the earth.”
Salt is a dietary mineral used for flavoring food. Our daily meals are bland and not very tasty without salt. However, an over indulgence of salt can be detrimental to our health. Our kind and generous actions can be the healthy balance that is needed in a hurting world.
Trials are real to all people. Christians are not excused from having trials in their lives. As trials become heavy, it is easy to lose the flavor of seasoning. It is often difficult to put on a smile and go out to be salt with an intention of seasoning someone’s day. If we are not careful, we may lose our flavor and become weak in fulfilling our purpose towards others.
Don’t be discouraged when life is heavy.
Salt comes from the ocean and is processed by boiling. Sea salt becomes tasty and effective as a seasoning when the water is drained after the boiling and cleansing process is complete. It would be wise to consider that our trials may be for the benefit of others. We are being processed.
Let us count it a blessing to be partners with God as we go through the boiling process. Don’t lose your flavor. Make the most of the situation.
Remember to be the salt of the earth and season someone else’s day with kindness. Keep a healthy balance for others around you.
