Rincon golf tournament benefits Alzheimer's research

The fourth annual David Jimenez Open Golf Tournament to benefit Alzheimer’s research is set for Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Lost Plantation Golf Club in Rincon.

The tournaments have raised more than $30,000 in the last three years for the Coastal Georgia Alzheimer’s Association.

The tournament format will be a four-person scramble, captain’s choice, with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

The cost is $65 per player which includes green and cart fees, lunch, two mulligans, a hole-in-one contest, eagle putt on No. 15 and prizes for winning teams.

The event also will include a silent auction and entertainment by Ricky Standard on vocals and guitar.

Sponsorships are available from $50 to $500.

David Jimenez, 74, a Rincon resident, died on Oct. 30, 2013, after suffering from Alzheimer’s for 14 years.

He was a PGA Life Member in the Georgia section. His professional golf career included being a PGA Tour player in the 1960s and early 70s; 1975 MAPGA Player of the Year; 1976 PGA Cup Match USA Team Member; five-time World Cup player partnered with Chi Chi Rodriguez three times; head pro at Wintergreen Resort, Va., for 17 years; and a PGA Senior European Tour exempt player for seven years.
