The Salzburgers celebrated the 280th anniversary of the landing of the Salzburgers in Georgia on Monday.

Held on the grounds of Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Rincon, the festival featured heritage crafts and demonstrations, music and costumes, Salzburger recipes, barbeque and desserts with a cane grinding, syrup making and cold lemonade.

Fun for children included candle making and face painting.

A large crowd turned out for the annual event that also included displays of native plants, basket making, gourds and wood working.

Speaker was Dr. Thomas Mueller-Bahlke from The Francke Foundation in Halle, Germany.

The Yuchi Indians brought four people from Tulsa and Sapulpa Oklahoma for the day. Yuchi Indians lived near the Salzburers and taught them how to hunt and cultivate the land properly.
