The Effingham Chamber of Commerce announced that it will hold a Membership Campaign for the first time in several years.

Chamber President Scott Hinson said, “We have a solid Chamber here in Effingham County and because we do so much to make this a better place to do business and to live, we hope more Effingham area businesses will join with us so that we can accomplish even more. The thing we want all local businesses to do is to become partners with the Effingham Chamber. We do an awful lot now for the good of the county and with more businesses joining us, we can do even more.”

The Effingham Chamber says that now more than ever it is providing more programs for the businesses and citizens of the county.

A new shop-local campaign will be rolled out soon, and a series of local job fairs have already begun. Educational programs are held throughout the year as well as candidate forums and legislative breakfasts. The Effingham Chamber also produces the popular Taste of Effingham and the Effingham Oktoberfest.

Chamber Director Rick Lott said that the Chamber is hoping to gain 60 new members in this drive.

The campaign will begin on Aug. 5 and run through Aug. 15.

Lott said that team captains have been recruited and they will be eligible for prizes throughout the campaign.

“I think this is something that all our teams can have a lot of fun with,” said Lott.

Team Captains include: Kris Brinker and August Shearouse of Heritage Bank of the South; Talbert Edenfield of Vision Financial; Dinah King of Georgia Power; Elaine Spencer of Effingham Family Connection; Brooke Burns Graham of Burns Insurance; Michael and Marie Murphy of Effingham Health System; Karen Tanksley of the Effingham Herald; and a team from the Chamber Ambassadors.

Chamber member Melissa Reagan of Madrac Farms will serve as teams coordinator for the campaign and United Way Director Bonnie Dixon will help to train the team captains in the art of developing new members.

A Mid-Campaign lunch meeting will be held on Friday, Aug. 8, at noon at the Effingham College and Career Academy and campaign results will be announced at a special teams wrap-up luncheon on Friday, Aug. 15, at noon at the New Ebenezer Retreat Center.
