

Jerusalem Lutheran Church hosted the Georgia Salzburger Society's annual 280th Landing Day meeting on Saturday.
The anniversary marks the first group of Salzburgers landing in Georgia on March 12, 1734.
Dan Elliott was the guest speaker.
Elliott is an archaeologist and spoke on research about what happened to the loyalists at Ebenezer after the American Revolution.
Elliott said there is evidence some Salzburgers went to the Bahamas.
He also said that one of the Ebenezer pastors, the Rev. Triebner, was loyal to England and eventually made his way back there where he continued to serve as a minister until his death. Elliott also said there is evidence some Salzburgers who were loyalists moved to the Bahamas.
New officers were also elected to the Georgia Salzburger Society board along with a new president and vice president.
Longtime curator for the GSS museum, Martha Zeigler, retired along with assistant curator Roger Stephens. They were both given plaques in honor of their service.
Retiring board members were: Claudia Christiansen, Philip Gnann, Barbara Scott, Josh Zeigler and G. Henry Mingledorff III. Also retiring was GSS president Keith Zeigler.
Officers elected for 2014-2015 include Vince Exle, president; Gary Nizzi, vice-president; Mary Sue Kessler, secretary; Janice Moody, treasurer; Sherly Howell, curator; Patsy Zeigler, assistant curator; Martha Lassister, registrar;Charlie Arnsdorff, parliamentarian.
Special guests for the day include Consul General Christoph Sanders of Germany.
