Effingham Sheriff's reports: dog poisoned in Springfield area

From incident reports at the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office:

Feb. 16: A man who said he had 10 to 12 beers at Alibi’s in Rincon told a deputy he didn’t call for a ride home because he was “too drunk and didn’t think about it.” He was arrested for drunken driving, failure to maintain lane, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to notify owner upon striking unattended vehicle. Teal Drive in the Springfield area.

Feb. 16: A man was bitten by a dog at a house on Riverbranch Road in the Bloomingdale area.

Feb. 18: A woman who ran over lighted safety cones at First Baptist Church of Springfield was arrested for drunken driving and weaving over roadway.

Feb. 19: A Springfield man said someone stole his identity and took out a loan in his name for $750. With penalties, the amount owed had risen to $1,200.

Feb. 19: A driver was pulled over for not staying in his lane on Kolic Helmey Road near Ga. 30. The driver was arrested for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of a drug-related object and failure to maintain lane.

Feb. 19: A deputy tried to stop the driver of a Lexus without a license plate at Bay and Old River roads. The driver was on the phone with his girlfriend. The girlfriend told him not to stop for the deputy and to continue driving home. When he got to his house, he was arrested for no license plate and obstruction.

Feb. 21: A 76-year-old resident of U.S. 80 in the Eden area sent $285 to claim a prize of $585,000 and a new Mercedes from the Publisher’s Clearing House. When they requested another $500, he discovered it was a scam.

Feb. 21: A woman is afraid her cat was killed by some stray dogs she has seen around her house, on Williams Avenue in the Clyo area. She found a lot of the cat’s fur on the ground.

Feb. 23: An arrest warrant was issued for a man accused of throwing a shovel at his mother and threatening to kill his brother with a knife. Old Oak Road in the Guyton area.

Feb. 23: Two sisters got in a physical fight that began as one was braiding the other’s hair and got too rough. Goshen Commercial Place.

Feb. 23: A woman said her neighbor removed some posts behind her house so she could drive four-wheelers there. Chestnut Lane in the Guyton area.

Feb. 23: A man said his neighbor’s dog came on his property and got in a fight with his dog over food. He was able to secure the neighbor’s dog on a chain in its own yard. Beecher Drive in the Guyton area.

Feb. 24: A man said his boat, which was chained to a tree on Old River Road, was stolen.

March 1: Two drunken people left a smoker-type cooking device burning overnight just inches outside a mobile home. The device caught the mobile home on fire, burning away a large section of the roof. Beecher Drive in the Guyton area.

March 1: A resident of Clyo-Shawnee Road in the Springfield area said two four-wheelers drove by his house and someone on the vehicles was firing guns.

March 2: A woman said she was cleaning her house with the doors open when her live-in boyfriend started cursing at her because he was cold. She called the Sheriff’s Office because he wouldn’t stop yelling at her. Martha Drive in the Guyton area.

March 2: A man who was driving a vehicle with no lights in the dark was arrested for driving without a license and driving without headlights. Badger Road in the Guyton area.

March 2: A man sold a 1999 Saturn to a man for $200 and then sold the same car to a woman for $100. A deputy told him he couldn’t sell the same vehicle twice. He agreed to return the money to the woman. Tunnel Road in the Springfield area.

March 8: A man said when he woke up, his debit card and $120 cash were missing from his wallet. He said his girlfriend was the only other person in the house. She started packing her bags and said she was moving out. Green Morgan School Road in the Clyo area.

March 8: A woman said a man threatened to burn down her house and beat her up. Church Hill Road in the Guyton area.

March 8: Windows were broken and floors and wiring were torn out of a house on Shuman Drive in the Bloomingdale area.

March 8: The driver of a vehicle that was struck in an auto accident said the driver of the car that struck him threw some items into the woods before deputies arrived. The man denied the items were his, but some of them had his name written on them. He was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug-related objects. Old River Road in the Bloomingdale area.

March 9: A man said his stepsister was angry that he took her home instead of taking her to buy crack. Wigley Field Drive in the Guyton area.

March 9: A woman pulled over for suspicion of drunken driving said the deputy’s blue lights were bothering her and he should turn them off. She was arrested for drunken driving, failure to maintain lane and open container while driving.

March 9: A man said his ex-wife was drinking and driving with their daughter in the car. She admitted it. A deputy advised her about the law against endangering a child by drunken driving. Old Dixie Highway S. in the Springfield area.

March 9: A woman said her ex-boyfriend threw a beer on her. She said she slapped him and he hit her and threw her to the ground. She said he joined a motorcycle club called the “Wingmen” and she didn’t like how his attitude and behavior changed. Reedsville Road in the Clyo area.

March 11: A woman and her father complained that a neighbor was spraying their dog with water when the dog was in their fenced back yard. The neighbor complained about the dog barking excessively. S. Effingham Plantation Drive in the Guyton area.

March 13: A window was broken on house on Clyo-Kildare Road in the Newington area. Several items were stolen.

March 14: A woman believes someone poisoned her shepherd-lab mix. She found white plates with a liquid that appeared to be anti-freeze in her fenced back yard. The dog foamed at the mouth, went into convulsions and died. Log Landing Road in the Springfield area.

March 14: A deputy stopped a vehicle on Sandhill Road for having a severely cracked windshield. A passenger was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute (methamphetamine) and possession of drug-related objects. The driver was charged with theft by receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and windshield violation.

March 15: A man who admitted being drunk and stealing his father’s truck from Screven County was found stopped along Ga. 21 S. in the Springfield area. He was arrested for theft by receiving stolen property, driving with a withdrawn license and open alcohol container.

March 15: A drunken woman was upset because her boyfriend had driven off without her. Ga. 21 S. at Town Park Drive in Rincon.

March 16: A woman was arrested for breaking a window and obstruction for entering her estranged husband’s house. Road Atlanta in the Bloomingdale area.
