It’s true; love is a many splendored thing. I thought of a few things in life that when a special touch is added, it’s just a splendid thing!
A house is not a home until love is added. Money has the power to pay for a house but only love can make it homey. Keeping up can make you want a widescreen TV, but it sure warms your heart when the remote is handed your way.
Duty will make dad furnish groceries and mom cook a meal. The added touch comes in with fresh-cut flowers on the table, and all of the family sitting around. Compulsion keeps a sparkling house and a manicured lawn, but love wants a gym set outside and a playroom inside. Responsibility carries out necessary tasks, but love enables us to do them for the sheer joy of seeing happiness in others.
Don’t just pack a lunch for your children. Tuck a note inside and let them know how proud you are of them. Don’t just make a phone call to faraway friends. Send a card, or better yet, pack a few of their favorite things into a care package. You’ll be surprised what an added touch will do.
The power of love makes life worth living. The added touch turns life into giving. I Corinthians 13:2 tells us that if we have the gift of prophecy, and knew all the mysteries of the future, and knew everything about everything, but didn’t love others, what good would it be? If we had the gift of faith so that we could speak to a mountain and make it move, without love we would be of no good to anybody.
Turn life into living with just a little added touch. As you take time to add your sparkle, may you hear the song in your mind, Love is a many splendored thing.
