Rincon native Cpl. Zachary Springer, a primary marksmanship instructor, oversees recruits of Platoon 3022, Kilo Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, at the indoor marksmanship trainer on Jan. 30 at Parris Island, S.C. The indoor marksmanship trainer allows marksmanship instructors to view recruits’ aiming and shot groups before they fire live ammunition. Springer, 22, is one of about 200 Marines on the island tasked with developing recruits into the Corps’ next generation of proficient riflemen. Recruits spend more than two of their 13 weeks on Parris Island learning basic rifle marksmanship, making this training the longest of any branch of service.
