

Effingham residents have been getting ready for the winter storm, stocking up on pipe insulation and buying all the generators in stock at the Lowe’s in Rincon.
As of early Tuesday afternoon the National Weather Service calls for rain until 8 p.m. with freezing rain between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., and then snow and sleet after 2 a.m.

New ice accumulation of 0.2 to 0.4 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch is possible.
The weather forecast has caused the closing of Effingham County Schools today and Wednesday. The public health facility also announced it would close at 3 p.m. Tuesday. The Effingham Recreation Department also announced the cancellation of all youth and adult basketball games, as well as all star practices, for Tuesday night and Wednesday night. Schools have also cancelled all extra-curricular activities.
