Bernice Arnsdorff Parker Jaudon

Bernice Arnsdorff Parker Jaudon, 85, of Springfield passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday morning Jan. 5, 2014, at the Effingham County Extended Care Facility.

Mrs. Jaudon was born March 22, 1928, to the late B.W. and Mildred Arnsdorff in Effingham County. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Melvin Arnsdorff, Mitchell Arnsdorff and her sister Jeanette Arnsdorff.

Mrs. Jaudon lived most of her life in Effingham County and loved the old homeplace where she grew up as a child. She attended and graduated from Clyo High School in 1945. She married M.C. (Monk) Jaudon on June 21, 1969. She was formerly employed as a secretary with the Public Savings Life Insurance Company of Savannah. She was also an active and loyal member of her childhood church Bethel Lutheran Church, the Effingham Historical Society, and the Georgia Salzburg Society where she served as secretary. She also volunteered at Manna House of Rincon, Georgia.

Mrs. Jaudon was a special lady who loved to sing and play the piano and guitar, with gospel tunes being her favorite. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved her family and friends dearly. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She also adored her dachshund Klinger. Never a spring went by that she did not enjoy her daffodils, geraniums and the beauty of her azaleas.

Mrs. Jaudon is survived by her daughter, Joyce Parker Burns (Steve) of Springfield, her son, Jimmy Parker, also of Springfield, and her stepdaughter, Janice Jaudon Dorminey (Edd) of Tifton. She is also survived by her grandchildren Sheri Royal (David), Kelli Hesling, Jennifer Herzog (Scott), Jeanine Webster (Luke) and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Bethel Lutheran Church.

Interment will follow in Springfield Cemetery Annex.

Remembrances may be given to Bethel Lutheran Church, 1984 Highway 21 North, Springfield, GA 31329.

Olan McCoy

Rincon — Olan McCoy, 78, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

The Alcolu, S.C., native was retired from Union Camp and was a charter member of the Rincon Lion’s Club. He was an U.S. Army Korean War veteran and a member of First Baptist Church of Rincon. Olan was preceded in death by his daughters, Shai Jones and Shawn McCorkendale.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley K. McCoy; sons, Jody and Jimmy McCoy; three grandchildren, Amber Jones, Austin Jones, and Dallas McCorkendale; two sisters, Harriett Allen and Sue Branson; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation:10-11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9 in the funeral home.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9 in the funeral home chapel.

Interment: Effingham Memorial Gardens.

James Ervin Patrick

GUYTON — James Ervin Patrick, 60, passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at his nephew’s residence.

Mr. Patrick was born in Pembroke, but lived in Effinghan County for a number of years. He was an automotive paint and body repairman and a Baptist.

He is survived by a son, D.J. Patrick of Guyton; daughter, Amy; one brother, Stevie Patrick of Eden; sister, Betty Joyce Wilt of Pineora and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held Thursday, Jan. 2, in the funeral home chapel.

Riggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

George M. Mosley

GUYTON — George M. Mosley, 91, passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at Effingham Hospital.

The Lyons native was a member of Guyton Christian Church, where he was an Elder Emeritus. He was a Master Mason and member of the Guyton Masonic Lodge #428 F. & A.M. for over 50 years, served on the Planters Telephone Board of Directors for over 20 years, and retired after 43 years from Union Camp. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII with the 7th Infantry Division in the Pacific and was wounded on the island of Guam.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 66 years, Irma Pevey Mosley; loving daughter and son-in-law, Connie Mosley Turner and Michael Turner of Delray Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews, Coy and Delores Mosley, Sandy and Tommy Odom, Betty McLendon, Bruce Mosely, Dennis Mosley; several great-nieces and great-nephews; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Jelane Battle, John and Quinell Sullivan, Reed Pevey, and Rachel Pevey.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 3, at Guyton Christian Church.

Interment followed in Guyton Cemetery.

Helen Christie Chance

RINCON — Helen Christie Chance, 76, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at Memorial Health.

The loving wife, mother and grandmother enjoyed cooking, bowling and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She attended Countryside Baptist Church and had retired from Walmart after working for over 23 years.

Survivors include her husband, Roy L. Chance; children, Robert L. Chance (Sandra Skipper) and Brenda Arnold (Donnie); grandchildren, Chris Chance (Melissa), Scott Arnold (Stacie), Shawn Arnold (Heather), Kim Scott (Scotty), Lee Chance (Lindsay), Daniel Arnold (Jen), Alan and Phil Skipper; 11 great-grandchildren ; a sister, Lois Mote; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 2, in the funeral home chapel.

Interment: Effingham Memorial Gardens.

Remembrances: Countryside Baptist Church.
