William Jay Neurath Sr.

William Jay Neurath Sr. passed away Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at Hospice of Savannah surrounded by his loving family members.

Mr. Neurath was born June 17, 1931, in Savannah. He lived in Port Wentworth during his childhood and moved to Rincon where he lived the remainder of his life. Mr. Neurath served in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Neurath worked for Continental Can Company and Stone Container Company retiring in 1996 after 42 years of service. Mr. Neurath worked as a carpenter also and enjoyed building many buildings and projects for his friends and relatives during his working years. After retirement he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and enjoyed driving car transfers for a local dealership. His hobbies included wood working and gardening.

His favorite pastimes in retirement were attending Bluegrass Music Festivals all over the Southeast where he made many friends and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Jay Neurath and Mattie Floyd Neurath, sister Nona Neurath Chaffin, brother Floyd Wood Neurath, brother-in-law Ralph Waldo Chaffin and nephew Carl Allen Neurath Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, LuNeil Exley Neurath and his children; William Jay Neurath Jr. (Kamala), Susan Neurath Durden (Richard), Wesley Roan Neurath (Victoria), Laura Neurath Morgan (Darren; grandchildren Tyson Neurath, Jonathan Durden, Matthew Durden, Emily Durden, Tristan Neurath, Isabel Neurath, Lauren Morgan, Jayson Morgan, Olivia Morgan; brother Carl Alan Neurath (Linda Gail), brother Earl Von Neurath (Ruby), brother-in-law Gilbert Alton Exley (Gail); sister-in-law Ethelyn Exley Pye (William), many nieces and nephews, and his special little pet Molly Rose.

Pallbearers: Jonathan Durden, Matthew Durden, Tristan Neurath, Jayson Morgan, Baylor Thompson, Gus Thompson, Dennis Exley, Patrick Exley, Travis Bazemore, Ryan Bazemore.

Honorary Pallbearers: Waldo Chaffin, Christopher Chaffin, Michael Newton, Earl Bazemore, Ken Thompson, Larry Oslund, Jared Oslund, Luke Oslund, Tommy Floyd, Ronnie Floyd, Neville Floyd and Len Floyd

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Dec. 29 at at Rincon United Methodist Church.

Interment: Ebenezer Cemetery.

Remembrances may be sent to the Rincon United Methodist Church.

Robert “Bob” Charles Banning

Our beloved Robert Charles Banning (Bob), 68, of Springfield, met his daughter, Tammy Banning, in heaven on Dec. 24, 2013. Bob was born the son of Mary Cox and Charles Banning in Avon Park Fla. on June 26, 1945.

Bob is survived by his wife of 29 years, Frances Banning; son, Charles Robert Banning and wife, Erin Banning of Wake Forest, N.C.; daughter, Angela Marie Davis and husband, Shawn Davis of Fort Mill, S.C.; brother, Chuck Banning and wife Jo Ann Banning of Battle Creek, Mich.; sister, Marty Smith and husband Charles of Apopka, Fla.; sister, Janice Richardson and husband Jim of Benton, Tenn.; and his grandchildren that he dearly loved, Courtney, Kelli, Taylor, and Little Charles.

Bob is dearly loved by his family and friends in the community. After retiring from Hackney of 17 years, he worked at Kroger in Rincon and was well loved by those he worked with and the people he interacted with daily.

Funeral services were held on Dec. 28 in the funeral home chapel.

Interment was private.

Pamela Joy Taylor

Guyton – Pamela Joy Taylor, 53, passed away Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center.

The Effingham County native was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church.  She was a graduate of Groves High School Class of 1979 and an avid country music fan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Taylor and Josephine Calhoun Anderson;  brother, Rusty Taylor; and brother-in-law, Von Swartz.

Survivors include her siblings, Rick Taylor, Rod Taylor (Susan), Sue Taylor Swartz, and Cathy Zipperer (Dwight); numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and devoted friend (sister) Debbie Browning Williams.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 28 at Bethesda United Methodist Church in Guyton.

Interment followed in Hillcrest Abbey West.

Remembrances may be given to Muscular Dystrophy Association,  www.MDA.org , March of Dimes, www.marchofdimes.com, or charity of choice.

Christine Davis

Springfield — Christine Davis, 69, passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at her residence.

She was a secretary at Roscoe’s cabinets for several years, was a homemaker and a member of Effingham Baptist Church.

Mrs. Davis is preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Ralph Davis and is survived by a daughter, Sarah Davis.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. in the Springfield Annex on Saturday, Dec. 21.

Memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Davis to Hospice Savannah, P.O. 13190, Savannah, GA 31416 or to the American Cancer Society in care of Susan Exley, 1930 Springfield-Egypt Road, Springfield, GA 31329.

William Carswell Rahn

Rincon – Mr. William Carswell Rahn, 76, passed away Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at his residence.

Mr. Rahn was a member of Laurel Hill Lutheran Church, the Clyo Masonic Lodge #280 F&AM, Historic Effingham Society and the Georgia Salzburger Society.

He was a 1955 graduate of Carlisle Military School in Bamberg, S.C. where he played football and baseball. After school he was employed at Southern Paperboard (later Continental Can Corporation) as a Millwright for 17 years. In 1972 he formed Rahn’s Logging and continued the business with his sons until 2002. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed preparing for hunting season and hunting on family land in Screven County.

Rahn was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Furman Parker Rahn and Freddie Lee Mallard Rahn, brother, Jerry Rahn and sister, Etiole Means.

Survivors include: wife of 56 years, Julia Exley Rahn; his son and daughter-in-law, Parker and Linda Rahn; and his son, Barnard Rahn, all of Rincon; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Chelsy and Nick Lancaster, granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Stacy and Joe Boyles, grandsons Matthew Rahn and Garrett Rahn and granddaughter Julia K. Rahn; great grandchildren, Addison and Kadence Lancaster; and aunts, Geneva Brown and Mary Rahn.

Funeral services were held on Dec. 23. at Laurel Hill Lutheran Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
